Healing taught me something different.
When I was living in survival mode, almost everything hurt.
A comment.
A tone.
A disagreement.
Someone questioning me.
Someone misunderstanding me.
I wasn’t weak.
I was wounded.
And wounded minds naturally look for safety.
Sometimes that safety looks like boundaries.
Sometimes it looks like isolation.
Sometimes it looks like leaving unhealthy environments.
Sometimes it even looks like avoiding people altogether.
For a season, that’s exactly what I needed.
Isolation gave my mind room to breathe.
But healing taught me something I never expected.
Isolation was never meant to become my permanent home.
Because eventually…
The goal wasn’t to build a world where no one could trigger me.
The goal was to build a mind that no longer needed the world to protect it.
I couldn’t expect strangers…
Family…
Friends…
Coworkers…
Social media…
To carefully choose every word so I would never feel uncomfortable.
That isn’t healing.
That’s survival trying to stay alive.
Healing didn’t make the world softer.
Healing made my mind healthier.
Today I can hear different opinions without assuming rejection.
I can be misunderstood without feeling destroyed.
I can leave unhealthy environments when necessary…
But I no longer have to leave every uncomfortable one.
That isn’t because people changed.
It’s because I did.
Survival mode kept me alive.
Healing taught me how to live.
